Built in 920 AD with red bricks, it is the second church in Prague's castle district and one of the oldest churches in the Czech Church, and the Romanesque exterior of the current Romanesque cathedral and two spires was rebuilt after a fire in 1142. The ceiling is made of wood and has excellent acoustics, making it one of the performance venues for the "Prague Spring" international music festival.
Golden Lane
The gorgeous and charming Golden Alley is located in Zlatá ulicka, next to Prague Castle, where Emperor Rudolf II gathered goldsmiths to live in this alley, hence the name of this alley. It is said that he once commissioned the people in this alley to find a substance that could turn ordinary metals into gold, but the actual situation is unknown.
In the 16th century, this beautiful alley was home to eleven small houses that served as the residence of the castle guards and their families. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these houses became the residence of illegal occupiers and artists, including the famous Czech poet and writer Franz Gerard. Franz Kafka (1883-1924). Kafka lived for two years in the blue cabin at number 22, which was his sister's home.
Golden Lane also has a medieval armory museum. This is one of the largest collectibles we've ever seen! One room collects helmets, another displays various armors, and one room stores a variety of weapons! They also play medieval music to add to the presence.
