Duomo di Milano

It is the Cathedral of Milan and one of the largest churches in Italy, second only to St. Peter's Basilica and Seville Cathedral. Construction of the church began in 1386 and took nearly six centuries to be completed, so it is a blend of architectural styles from many different periods, but mainly Gothic. The exterior of the church is carved from white marble and has 135 spiers and more than 3,400 statues. Every detail is stunning.

The majestic Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) is not only a landmark of Milan, but also an architectural miracle that took six centuries to create. This largest Gothic church in Europe always amazes travelers whether it is the dreamy light and shadow at sunrise or the magnificent scene of brilliant lights at night!

Milan is our second visit to this city. The last time we visited was about ten years ago, and everything was the same as before. But at that time, this was our last stop in Italy, so we were exhausted and could only visit the interior of the church. This time we had to arrive one day early because we were on an MSC cruise, so Milan was the first stop on our trip. In order to make up for the regret of not climbing to the top last time, we couldn’t miss it this time, and we still couldn’t buy tickets for the Last Supper mural. This was the only shortcoming, but in everything, thanksgiving and leaving shortcomings always brings hope for the next time. That is not the most beautiful comment.

The elegant design of the flying buttresses not only supports the building but also becomes the visual focus.

Each of the more than 100 minarets has a statue. The layering and depth of these stone carvings make every level of the building look three-dimensional.

The weather is so nice today. I have a great pose to compete with these magnificent statues.
