Zermatt lies at the foot of the Matterhorn, nestled amidst a vast network of hiking and skiing options. This unique location has made it one of the world's most renowned resorts. Zermatt's ski area boasts 54 mountain lifts and cable cars and over 360 kilometers of ski slopes. Known as the "Matterhorn Glacier Paradise," it is the world's largest and highest summer ski area. Zermatt is a car-free town, with all gas-powered vehicles prohibited. Transportation is limited to electric cars or horse-drawn carriages, and buses and taxis are all electric. Trains run from Zermatt to Visp and Tesch, where connections connect to nearby cities such as Lausanne, Geneva, and Interlaken. All cars stop in Tesch for trains to Zermatt. From Zermatt, visitors can visit the Matterhorn, a snowy mountain in southern Switzerland, by cogwheel train or cable car. As a stopover for Matterhorn excursions, the town is a popular base for mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts.
