After being stuck in Höfn for two days, the road finally opened at 5:00 PM the following day. We were anxiously checking the Icelandic weather reports constantly to see when the red route would open. We also tried every possible way to change our itinerary. Wei Li, always worried about danger, said that according to the published map, the only way to open up was to go back to the capital, Reykjavik. If we followed his plan, our entire trip would be ruined! I said that wouldn't work. I simply assumed the road would open soon, as all the tourists visiting Iceland were frozen solid at that time. As soon as the weather improved, it would be open. Sure enough, it was open by 5:00 PM.
The next morning, we hit the road early. The weather improved, and while Höfn wasn't snowing, it was just windy. However, as we continued north, we noticed a thick layer of snow. On our way to Lake Mývatn, we had to drive along Highway 95. The road was covered in snow but not ice, so we had to drive cautiously.
The scenery at the beginning is quite beautiful, but the road becomes steep when we finally turn into Highway 95. We first need to go to the big city Egilsstaðir.
We arrived at Egilsstaðir, the largest town in the area. We took a short break to refuel, use the restroom, and go to the supermarket to buy some groceries. Finally, as it was almost noon, we stopped at a rest stop to eat a hot dog. Coincidentally, we ran into the same hiking group as us.
休息過後就開始上路了
This is the most dangerous section of the road we have, with very low visibility, which is why the road was closed at that time.
Finally, we arrived at our hotel. Almost no one was staying there, except for one occupied room. As we drove toward Lake Myvatn, we passed Highway 864, the road to Dettifoss, Europe's largest waterfall. However, after three days of heavy snow, the access road hadn't been cleared, so we couldn't enter. So, we just kept going back to our hotel. My heart sank. Even if we could drive to Lake Myvatn, the ground would be completely covered in snow, meaning we wouldn't be able to see the beautiful scenery. I thought to God, "This is so interesting! We had planned such a perfect trip to Iceland, but it snowed heavily in early June, and we missed so many attractions. I was speechless. It was so bizarre! What kind of world is this?" I thought to myself, "But we firmly believed that this is our Heavenly Father's world!"
It’s snowing!
