Gudvangen

Gudvangen (the town at the deepest point of the Nærøyfjord, the fjord ferry's departure and arrival point, and a popular attraction, including the Viking Valley, a Viking village) is located. Once you disembark in Gudvangen, it's recommended to grab a cider from the bar and take a few photos of the replica Viking ship and the fjord behind you.

If you're taking the bus with Norway in Miniature, it'll take you around to Stalheim for breathtaking mountain views. Otherwise, there's a separate bus for regular commuters. Those who enjoy waterfalls should consider sitting on the left side of the bus. This bus takes you past three main attractions: up the mountain to Stalheim Hotel (an old hotel with a bird's-eye view of the fjord), Stalheimskleiva (a winding road, Norway's steepest), and Tvindefossen Waterfall (another large waterfall). A word of caution: the incline is quite steep, so you might feel a bit dizzy on this bus.

Thank God, we arrived at Gudvangen (the town at the deepest point of the Nærøyfjord) that afternoon. The weather turned from overcast to sunny and bright, allowing me to take as many close-up photos as I could at the fjord's terminus. I'm also grateful for the blessings often found in serendipity. We thought the ferry was scheduled for 9:30-11:30, but we ended up waiting for the bus for about four hours. I initially thought it was unfortunate to have to wait that long. We originally waited in the parking lot for about an hour, but then I decided I should wait and enjoy the view by the fjord, so I moved to a restaurant's outdoor seating. I then grabbed my camera and started taking long shots of the water. Usually, such shots require an exposure of at least two minutes. With plenty of time and no one around, I was able to capture some unexpected photos. This is another great testimony to the achievement of turning a difficult wait into a beautiful photograph.

For portrait photography, the weather is good and there are no strangers. It really is the right time, right place, and right people. Everything is perfect!

Our bus will take us to the Stalheim Hotel, where we'll see Stalheimskleiva, one of the steepest roads in Northern Europe. Built between 1842 and 1846, it features 13 hairpin bends. From the Stalheim Hotel, you can enjoy stunning views of the road and the UNESCO-listed Nærøydalen Valley. Stalheimskleiva is the name of an old road that leads from the interior of Nærøydalen to the farms of Brekke and Stalheim. The road is not accessible by car, but you can walk about a kilometer from the top to the bottom. The view is indescribable.

This photo was taken by a benefactor who found my camera bag under the luggage compartment of a bus. In a hurry to put two large pieces of luggage into the bus, he forgot about the camera bag on the road. The benefactor picked it up and visited every bus to take it with him. When no one claimed it, he asked on our bus again. As a result, Wei Li heard it and quickly said it was ours.
