Reykjavik
Reykjavik
Reykjavík was the final stop on our Icelandic tour, as we were immediately on to Norway, so our two-night stay served as a break from the tour. Reykjavík is by far Iceland's largest municipality and the country's capital. The capital region is home to approximately 60% of Iceland's total population, around 360,000 people. Reykjavík is the world's northernmost capital. Although not as large as many other capitals, the city is vibrant. It boasts a vibrant arts scene, as evidenced by many renowned Icelandic bands and artists. There are also many excellent museums and attractions to explore. The city is vibrant and its people are warm and welcoming.
Choose from a wide selection of restaurants and/or cafes. Whether you're looking for Icelandic cuisine, à la carte dining, or a quick bite, you'll easily find a restaurant to suit your needs. But don't forget to stop by the small hot dog stand called "Bæjarins bestu" and try our very special Icelandic hot dog. We promise it's a treat.
Perlan
Reykjavik has many museums, but if you only visit one, Perlan, Wonders of Iceland, is highly recommended. Located just outside the city center, this museum sits atop Reykjavik's highest mountain, offering some of the best views in town. But there's more to visiting Perlan than just its observation deck! Perlan is a great place to learn about all of Iceland's natural wonders! You can learn more about volcanoes, walk through a real ice tunnel, and even watch the spectacular Northern Lights show, called Arora. If you didn't get the chance to see the real Aurora Borealis during your visit to Iceland, this is a great alternative. Even if you've seen the Aurora before, the show is still very impressive.
Perlan Museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It can be reached by car, on foot, by the shuttle bus from Harpa (included with all Perlan tickets), or by the hop-on hop-off bus. It's a great place to visit when it's raining, or if you're in Reykjavik in the winter when there's barely any daylight or the weather is too bad for outdoor activities and sightseeing. There are three best ticket options: (1) All-inclusive ticket, (2) Arora show and viewing deck only ticket, and (3) All-inclusive ticket except Arora show. If you have at least 2 hours, choose the full option (#1)
