Italy - Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast, a Mediterranean coastline where small villages nestle in bays and towering mountains, is a dreamlike wonderland. It's one of the most breathtaking places I've ever visited and our favorite part of Italy. Join us as we explore this Italian paradise, from Ravello and Amalfi to Praiano and, of course, Positano.

Starting from Salerno, the drive ascends the hillside, offering stunning views not only of the coast but also of the city itself. From Salerno, the road winds through several small villages before finally rounding an outer corner and emerging into Maiori. This small beach is the perfect place to stop for lunch and unwind from the journey. A boardwalk runs along the beach, lined with restaurants and shops. After lunch and gelato, we continue our journey, but before we do, be sure to visit the castle perched on the cliffs at the end of the town.

Our Italian driver was quite old, but he drove the winding roads relentlessly and recklessly, making us sweat. When we set out from Pompeii and climbed a high mountain, he said that the Amalfi Coast was on the other side of the mountain.

Across the mountains, the famous Amalfi Coast appears before us.

Amalfi Cathedral, the Patriarchal Cathedral of Amalfi, Italy, is a medieval Roman Catholic church located in Piazza del Duomo. Dedicated to the Apostle Saint Andrew, whose mysticism lives on here, the cathedral began construction in the 9th and 10th centuries and has undergone numerous additions and redecorations in various styles, including Arab-Norman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Finally, a new Norman-Arab-Byzantine facade was added in the 19th century. The cathedral also includes the 9th-century Basilica of the Cross.

This beautiful photo is a rare one because the road here is very narrow and there is no parking. Our driver told me to get my camera ready before we got here. He stopped here and I opened the car door, taking a few seconds to capture this scene.
