Because of heavy snow, our plans were completely altered. Our original plan was to visit the famous Blue Lagoon in Reykjavík, but we learned from the website that it was a tourist gimmick. On Lake Myvatn, we visited Jardbodin, an outdoor natural spa. Their prices are very reasonable, and they don't include face masks, drinks, or other extras. You can't miss out on a whole package.
We took a break from dinner before visiting the spa, as it was still snowing. It was a truly amazing experience. At 8 p.m., it was snowing outside, so we went to the spa. Of course, it wasn't crowded. The walk to the pool after changing into our swimsuits was practically freezing; it was our first time doing it naked in the snow. (They're open until 10 p.m.)
Soaking in the hot springs under these circumstances was incredibly relaxing. It was a unique experience, not crowded, and the water was just the right temperature. It was truly a true pleasure!
The Myvatn Nature Baths are centered around a large lagoon, with temperatures ranging from approximately 36 to 40 degrees Celsius (97 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit). The water is rich in minerals, especially sulfur, which is said to be beneficial for respiratory and skin problems. There are also two steam baths, located directly above the bubbling geothermal waters. Temperatures approach 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) and humidity nears 100%, so be sure to hydrate before entering. Adult admission is 4,500 ISK in winter (until the end of April) and 5,000 ISK in summer (until the end of September). This is almost half the price of Blue Laoon, where the cheapest is 10,000 ISK and the most expensive is 16,000 ISK.
It's snowing! It's so cold!
The snowy scenery around the parking lot leading to the hot springs. It was 9:00 pm, and the sun didn't set until 11:00 pm in Iceland during the summer.
Vogafjós Farm Resort Restaurent is an accommodation and farm restaurant. Their dishes are very local, fresh and worth a try.
Vogafjós Farm Resort Restaurent
There are almost no restaurants near Lake Myvatn except for a pizza shop. After some research, I learned that there is a farm nearby. They not only run the farm but also provide accommodation. Not only that, they also run a restaurant. Their food is very high-end because they have their own farm. We had dinner there for two nights, and it was great! On the first night, we ordered lamb chops, beef soup, coffee, and dessert. On the second night, we tried their beef burger. It was strange that there was no steak on their menu.
Next to the restaurant is a cattle farm, no wonder you can smell the peculiar smell of cow dung as soon as you enter.
On the second night we ordered hamburgers. They said the beef from their farm was very tender and delicious. A burger cost $30 USD.
