One of the must-see attractions for photographers in East Iceland is Vestrahorn, the Devil's Horn. Our original plan was to hike the glacier, visit the glacial lagoon, and then visit the Devil's Horn at Hofn for dinner. It would have taken us another hour and a half to reach our hotel, Lindarbrekka. Had we done that, we probably wouldn't have been able to capture such a beautiful scene!
However, the weather wasn't kind. We encountered a red weather alert, and the road was closed. As we were heading to our hotel, police stopped us and told us the road was closed due to dangerously strong winds. This was a real hassle, as we immediately needed to find accommodations for the night, and then had to contact our hotel to let them know we couldn't go. This completely disrupted our schedule. It was only because we had enough time in Hofn that we were able to capture this magnificent view. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the lady at Viking Cafe. When we went in to ask how to enter, she said that we needed to buy a parking ticket before we could enter. However, we forgot to bring our wallet. We felt very embarrassed and said that we had no money. The lady saw that we were tourists who rarely came here, and that we did not mean to bring no money, so she said that we could enter for free. We are really grateful for God's grace.
This area is made up of a variety of steep peaks. The Viking Cafe is at the entrance to the Viking settlement and Reflection Beach. You need to stop here and buy a ticket, which is 1,000 ISK per person (credit cards accepted). Honestly, it's not cheap, but since I've come to Iceland, I figured I'd spend the money. You can enter directly after buying your ticket, and there's no ticket checking or anything like that. Iceland is a place that truly trusts humanity. To reach Vestrahorn, set the Google Map navigation to "Viking Cafe." After turning off Ring Road 1, there's a bumpy gravel road, and the final drive to Reflection Beach is also difficult. Renting a four-wheel-drive SUV is recommended.
