Sauðárkrókur
Sauðárkrókur is a little-known town in Skagafjörður, northern Iceland. We stayed there for the night to join a puffin-watching trip. Since the trip only departed once a morning at 9:30, we needed to stay overnight before rejoining the boat the next morning. Drangey Tours offers a short boat ride to the beautiful island, and the view of the fjord from the sea is delightful and beautiful. There's a bit of a hike on the island, but it's well worth it. With such a short distance, the sight of puffins, seagulls, and gulls is priceless. From the top, you can see a panoramic view of the fjord.
Unfortunately, our boat trip was canceled due to bad weather, and it departed the day after we left. It was truly unfortunate. We had planned this trip for so long, traveled all the way from the United States, and driven all the way around Iceland to reach this small town. It was right before our eyes, but it was just one day short. Oh my god! We weren't destined for the puffin-watching trip. But we should give thanks for everything, because God gives us more than we ask or imagine. Because we couldn’t go out to sea, we changed our itinerary. After asking the lady at the hotel counter several times, she gave us a local tourist map, so we went to The Ketubjorg cliffs.
Starting from Lake Mytavn, we headed to Sauðárkrókur, 243 kilometers away. On the way, we passed Godafoss Waterfall and Akureyri, the largest city in northern Iceland. We passed many beautiful scenery along the way, including snow-capped mountains, horse pastures, and local churches, which were truly breathtaking.
The Ketubjorg cliffs
The coastal cliffs of Ketubjorg feature a waterfall of the same name. This coastal waterfall, approximately 393.7 feet (120 meters) high, cascades down from the clifftop. The water is fed by a nearby river. Ketubjorg cliffs are the remains of a volcanic island, formed by years of wave action. Nature's efforts have paid off, and the site is now considered a hidden gem that tourists love to explore. Photographers flock to Ketubjorg cliffs to capture the breathtaking scenery and views surrounding the cliffs. However, the road to Ketubjorg cliffs is unpaved for a section; instead, it's paved with small gravel, but it's not particularly bumpy or difficult to navigate.
