Today we flew from Bergen to Stavanger, the final leg of our 20-day tour. We could have ended our trip after visiting Flamfjord, but we learned that Stavanger, Norway's third-largest city, offers not only the Lysefjord but also the amazing experience of climbing Pulpit Rock. So, this became our final leg of our tour. It combines a breathtaking Lysefjord view with an exciting hike up Pulpit Rock.
Our boat sails from Stavanger through an unforgettable fjord landscape, encompassing idyllic islands, rocky coasts, steep mountains, and powerful waterfalls. We'll take you to Vagabond Cave and share the legend of this mysterious cave. We'll carefully maneuver the boat's bow toward Hengjane Waterfall, where you can feel the splash of mountain water. We'll then be dropped off in the village of Forsand and take a bus to the Preikestolen trailhead, leading to the famous plateau. After returning from the hike, you can catch the bus back to Stavanger at 6:00 PM.
Today I flew from Bergen Airport to Stavanger. Before I could find a way to get to the airport, I looked up information and found out I could take the light rail, which takes about an hour. Then, by chance, on our way home from the fish market, I saw someone with luggage near the bus stop, seemingly bound for the airport. After asking, I realized it was the bus stop for the airport bus, less than six minutes from where we live, and the trip took less than 30 minutes. Thank God for once again allowing us to experience this convenience.
This is the small plane we took. It was very convenient and arrived in about 25 minutes. If we took the road or train, it would take at least 4 hours.
Apartment: Home Again Apartments Kirkegata
After arriving at the airport, we immediately checked our phone for bus information. Since it was quite close, only about 25 minutes to the city center, we quickly stowed our luggage. Since we arrived early, the owner let us in early, which was a huge thank you. This apartment was the best we stayed in on this trip. It was incredibly comfortable, just like home, with a desk and everything else.
Stavanger is a small city. Because of its port, many tourists arrive by cruise ship. It seems fewer people, like us, arrive by plane. After arriving, we browsed the shops near our apartment. That evening, we chose a Pakistani restaurant and had a delicious meal of Indian-style food.
Construction of the 85-foot (26-meter) tower, Valberget Utsiktspunkt, began between 1850 and 1853. From the tower, watchmen could see from one end of Stavanger to the other. Early signs of fires were easily spotted from the tower's hilltop vantage point. Stavanger residents were warned by the sound of bells and cannons. The tower was right behind our house, so it was easily visible from across the city.
The blue cruise ship parked at the port is the fjord cruise we will take tomorrow
When the tourists leave in the late afternoon, the streets are deserted and there is no one around.
India Tandoori Restaurant Stavanger
Overall, it was a wonderful experience eating Indian food. It's amazing to be able to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in Norway. We had the Hyderabadi Vegetable Biryani and the Indian Chicken, Beef, and Lamb Biryani, both of which were excellent. The portions were surprisingly generous! We thoroughly enjoyed the food.
