Zurich
Zurich, located in northern Switzerland, is the country's largest city. Settled since the Roman Empire, it was a focal point for the Reformation. It once competed with Schaffhausen to the north for dominance of shipping on the Rhine in northern Switzerland. It is now a major financial center.
Although it is Switzerland's largest city and boasts numerous attractions, it is somewhat distant from Switzerland's central tourist destination, the Alps. People typically spend only two or three days in the city before moving on to other major cities like Lucerne, Interlaken, and Zermatt. Most people visit Zurich after visiting Lucerne. Zurich's prices are among the highest in the world, so visitors must save a considerable amount of money to fully enjoy their trip. Otherwise, they will have to rely on Coop, a convenient supermarket, for meals.
