Flam
Flam is a village in southwestern Norway, a region famous for its fjords. It sits at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, an offshoot of the vast Sognefjord. We told you Flåm was small! Although inhabited since 1340, only 350 people live there today. Yet, the place is incredibly picturesque, welcoming nearly 450,000 visitors annually—that's over 1,000 tourists for every resident! (Of course, not everyone visits at the same time).
After a 17-minute walk, we checked in at our hotel. Our afternoon itinerary was to explore the small town. Since we were only staying there for the afternoon, leaving by boat the next morning, there were plenty of walking trails to explore. We chose a simple, casual hike that offered a bird's-eye view of Flåm. The next morning I woke up very early. There was a drizzle in the sky. I followed the river along the path in front of our house, passed a waterfall, continued walking along the river and finally arrived at the oldest church here.
