Oslo

Today we flew from Iceland to Oslo, Norway's capital. We took the national railway from the airport to the city center (about 25 minutes). After dropping off our luggage, we embarked on a half-day tour of Oslo. Oslo doesn't have many tourist areas, much of which can be explored on foot. The entire city tour can be completed on foot. According to Google Maps, the walking distance takes less than an hour and 30 minutes, but the numerous attractions, including famous buildings, museums, and theaters, require more time.

The National Museum, the largest art museum in the Nordic countries, is located here. The Nobel Peace Center tells the fascinating story of Alfred Nobel through exhibitions, conferences, and digital experiences. The Oslo Opera House, with its sloping white facade, appears to rise from the water. It invites visitors to climb its roof year-round for panoramic views of Oslo and the fjord. Since its opening in 2008, the Oslo Opera House has been home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. The new National Museum in Oslo

Undoubtedly, the most anticipated attraction for visitors is seeing Edvard Munch's "The Scream" (1893) in person. The Edvard Munch room in Hall 60 is dedicated to a wide range of Munch's works, including "Madonna" (1894) and "The Kiss" (1892). While the Munch Museum offers a deeper exploration of Munch and his work, the Munch room at the new National Museum in Oslo showcases his most refined works. ● Sámi artist Máret Ánne Sara: A Curtain of 400 Reindeer Skulls. This work, composed of 400 polished reindeer skulls (punctured with bullet holes), is visible upon entering the museum. For many years, it has served as a symbol of Sámi protest against Norwegian state policies. This thought-provoking and controversial work was only exhibited in Oslo after lengthy debate and negotiation.

The security at the Oslo Museum is quite strict. You are not allowed to bring any small bags, water, jackets, etc. With such large paintings and cultural relics, I don’t know what you can put in a small bag. You are forced to store them in a personal safe in the basement.

The collection showcases Norwegian visual art, architecture, design, and crafts, featuring major works by international artists. Works by Edvard Munch are showcased in a dedicated room. Early versions of works such as "The Scream," "Madonna," "The Girls on the Bridge," "The Dance of Life," and "The Sick Child" are also available. The first floor features works by fashion designers Peter Dundas and Ramona Saro Mises. A room on the second floor is dedicated to the work of architect Sverre Fehn. The National Museum is a great place for inspiration and to experience major cultural events. The expansive Light Hall at the top of the museum is a spectacular sight, offering 2,400 square meters of exhibition space and adding a vibrant touch to the Oslo skyline. After enjoying the art, relax in the museum's café and rooftop terrace for a coffee and snack with family and friends. The museum shop offers a wide selection of goods. The square in front of the main entrance is a bustling urban space.

It seems familiar, as if I have seen it in the Louvre or a museum in Rome.

Edvard Munch, The Scream (1893) @ Hall 60

Undoubtedly, the most anticipated moment for visitors here is to see Munch's "The Scream" (1893). The Edvard Munch room in Hall 60 is dedicated to displaying many of Munch's works. "The Scream" is one of the most iconic works by the Norwegian Expressionist painter Edvard Munch. The subject's expression is agonized against a blood-red background, a reference to the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa, Indonesia, which stained the sky red with volcanic ash. The painting, depicted overlooking the Oslo Fjord from Mount Ökeberg, has been interpreted by some as reflecting the existential anxieties of modern life.

Puberty (Norwegian: Pubertet) is a painting by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, created between 1894 and 1895. Puberty is associated with both Symbolism, the movement in which Munch was born, and Expressionism, a movement in which he played a key role.

Life is hard! Are the farmers, fishermen, and workers who struggle to make a living crying out to the heavens symbolizing the curse of Adam, who cannot make a living without hard work?

After walking through the three floors of exhibition areas, we can finally go to the rooftop outdoor area to see the sea view of the city and the ships along the coast. It is so beautiful!
