The Temple of Confucius in Hanoi, Vietnam's First University: The Temple of Literature and the Imperial College

Vietnam is a Buddhist country, also influenced by Confucianism and Taoism. Therefore, after Ly Thai To established Vietnam and moved the capital to Thang Long (present-day Hanoi), he ordered the construction of this Temple of Confucius, which Vietnamese people call "Temple of Literature." Vietnam's first university, the Imperial College, was established a few years later, primarily for the princes' education.

This is also a popular destination for foreign tourists. I think everyone who comes to Asia wants to see very Asian architecture. Vietnam has always been influenced by Chinese culture, so many of its buildings are similar to Chinese architecture.

1. Confucian Temple Gate: The main gate of the Confucian Temple, which is also the starting point of the entire complex.

2. Dazhongmen (Great Central Gate): After passing through the Confucian Temple gate, you will arrive at a spacious courtyard. In the center of the courtyard is Dazhongmen, which is the passage to the core area of the Confucian Temple.

3. Khue Van Pavilion: Khue Van Pavilion is one of the iconic buildings of the Temple of Literature. Built in 1805 during the Nguyen Dynasty, it is a gem of ancient Vietnamese architecture, and the background of the Vietnamese 100,000 VND banknote is featured here.

4. Tianguang Well: Located between Kuiwen Pavilion and Jinshi Stele Pavilion, it is a square pool with clear water, surrounded by green trees and flowers.

The Pavilion of Imperial Scholars: On both sides of Tianguang Well are the Pavilion of Imperial Scholars, which contains stone tablets engraved with the names of imperial scholars from various dynasties. These stone tablets are important materials for studying the Vietnamese imperial examination system and history.

5. Dacheng Hall: Dacheng Hall is the main hall of the Confucian Temple, used to worship Confucius and other Confucian sages.
